Since 1998, Freedom Assembly, INC has not just been a business; we are a dedicated registry committed to preserving and providing critical information for Black Californians who are descendants of enslaved persons. Our organization was established to offer more than just assistance; we aim to empower and enable individuals to connect with their history and assert their rights. With the historical launch of reparations scheduled by the State of California to begin in August 2024, our role in helping individuals secure the necessary documentation to claim these reparations is more crucial than ever. The documentation process we facilitate focuses on providing verified birth certificates that list names and dates, all the way back to 1865, ensuring that our clients have the essential records needed for this monumental effort.
Our history of service extends beyond documentation. For over two decades, starting even before our formal establishment as a non-profit, we have been actively involved in providing comprehensive support services. From operating homeless shelters in Los Angeles, Riverside, and Imperial Counties to feeding, housing, and distributing household items, our actions are guided by a deep-seated commitment to uplift and support our community. These efforts go hand in hand with our documentation assistance program, which not only re-establishes historical ties but also supports the present and future well-being of the individuals we serve. This holistic approach ensures that while we assist in tracing lineages, we also address the immediate needs of our community, reinforcing our foundational belief in serving with purpose and compassion.
